One of the best choices to direct Blood Meridian.

He has grasped a Cormac McCarthy work with The Road and a great western with The Proposition. Put those together and you have Blood Meridian.

I liked his job with the road, i think he nailed the atmosphere completely, which is far and away the hardest thing to do in a McCarthy movie. He also showed a good handling of the western with the proposition, although the poor script kind of sunk it a bit, it felt to me like nick cave was trying way to hard.

Blood meridian is a whole different beast obviously, it's a very complex book, with very strong themes and hard characters to translate to the screen effectively. I don't know, give him a good writer to work with and maybe he'd pull it off, but right now i wish a more experienced director took control of it, maybe paul thomas anderson or the coen brothers. Someone with a more signature, well-defined style. Kubrick would be just perfect wouldn't he?

i also think he is the director to do it but that book still seems impossible to film to me ... but i'd trust Hillcoat with it ... when I heard he was doing 'the road' i starting looking into his past movies and came across the classic "the proposition' so any fears were allayed when i saw how he handled film and did not make it 'pretty'

take care,
cormac
