If he was born as an old man-baby...

...then shouldn't he have aged into and died as a baby-old man? It seemed kind of stupid to me that he was born as a baby and then aged into and died as a baby.

reply

No because he was "born old" and he lived his life aging in "reverse".. it makes sense that he would die "young"..

I think I get what you mean. He had some traits of an old-aged man; arthritis, loose skin, cataracts etc. but they made him child size in the film to make it more realistic. If he was born as a full sized old man it wouldn't seem as realistic and he probably would have ripped his mother in half.

reply

He had to start out small, he grew from a sperm and egg.

In the book he was born a full sized man, killing his mother during child birth, BUT even then when he was conceived he would have had to have been small.

In the book he was born a full sized man,

do what? how would a full size person fit inside another person?

reply

I thought he would "age" as a full sized baby and would pass away. I guess it was a bit easier to hire a few children to play the roles of age 10, 5, 3, 1 instead of making a CGI of a full sized baby like they did when he was born ,as an 80 year old 3 foot tall Brad Pitt.

reply

That would have been totally dumb too, I'm so glad they didn't do that.

The death as a full sized baby would not have been dumb, that would have been more logical, as compared to his birth.
And probably, that would also have been visually ridiculous. Now that you say it, I kind of regret they didn't do it. At least, it would have been a surprise.
Anyway, this thread made my day!

In the original story he was born a full-sized old man. It was just a whimsical little tale.

Ouch !

"I say ! Open this door at once! We're British !"

It makes sense to me. He was still conceived via a sperm and egg, so he HAD to start out SMALL at the beginning of his life regardless.

Having him die as a giant baby would have RUINED it for me.

Are you saying he should have died as this?

because I'm all for it...

reply

Exactly! I waited the entire movie to see an old man sized baby, which is the only thing that makes sense given the premise, and was let down by them forgetting how his aging works and making him reverse in both look and size suddenly.

You really are dumb, aren't you?

I thought the same thing. It makes sense he had to be an old man baby or he couldn't be delievered. However, he should also become a larger size baby at the end and when he dies.

personally, i think it would've been really horrific to show him as a 6'0 toddler. it would've added a lot of gravitas to how disturbing and upsetting his condition truly was. like fuck, this is what he was scared of becoming. however, i think it would've been effective had they not shown him as a baby at all. leave it to our imagination.

the movie as a whole glossed over a lot of stuff that would've been interesting.
