This might be a stupid question to you guys but what was up with breaking the chocolate bar in half and that paper the lady gives to Glen Gary in the beginning of the movie. I didn't really get that.

hey there.. actually if you noticed several times through out the silly movie that they would play for food stuffs either card games in the warehouse area or in the secret clubroom amidst the shelved stock... many stores have a policy that broken or opened items may be either used by employees since it is off the market, Or it may be bought very cheaply from a collected bin as a result of being broken or opened .. So, it is actually a running gag through-out the film in like 4 or 5 different scenes they do things with broken goods
Therefore in the scene you mentioned, he *Broke* the butter finger bars to make them employee currency as a cover from be seeing as taking salable goods
