Hit me on different levels

To start, I really loved this movie. It started a bit slow, but when it came into it's own it really worked for me. But one major difference between the series and the film are the depth of the characters. The movie really explored emotions, it didn't just rely on the humor. I actually got choked up twice, something I never expected out of TPB. Anyway, I am reluctant to suggest a remake, but the movie made me imagine a series as something that I can only compare to an HBO or Showtime show. All the dirty humor/drug use/drinking should remain but there could be real depth and viewers could have real empathy for these characters. I know it will never happen, but I think I would have preferred the series if it had these deeper elements to it.

I think the show had those deeper elements that you're talking about...I guess it was just more subtle in the show, and easier to spot in this movie. I watched the movie yesterday (I had seen everything else except this and the new movie) and I enjoyed it; I realized that they went out and made it like a "real" movie and not an extended episode, which I could understand and appreciate. It's got a different feel from the show, which is to be expected, but all the main components were still there. So back to your point, I really felt that TPB had the depth you're talking about, and that's one of the main reasons I found it so great. I wasn't always laughing when watching the show (just internally chuckling) but I was appreciating every scene on the screen, and it definitely hits on different levels.
