Spoilers: Could've Done Without...
Even though I don't believe in the dead haunting anyone or coming back for anything, I understand that is part of the legend-stories of hearing the mother searching. But the part of the ghost Lucy helping the present Lucy find the evidence and the dead mother killing the murderer was not needed. There were other ways for Lucy to find those things and like I said, the dead returning to kill someone is not something I believe in. They could have had the person die in any other number of ways.
