Does Toy Story need 4

i'm reading on this board rumours that #4 might happen, but does it really need to? i thought it finished on a such a perfect high.

reply

It doesn't need one and there will not be one. The only time there will be one is if Disney and/or Pixar say "Toy Story 4 will be made" until then there is no Toy Story 4 ever going to be made.

reply

Money talks and Disney owns the right to these characters, with over a billion dollars made, you can bet the farm that Disney will find a way for Pixar to make several more Toy Story films, and Tom Hanks and Tim Allen said they are both interested.

Kids love these characters and there isn't any reason why the adventures of Buzz and Woody can't continue under Bonnie's ownership at all!

IF totoro's in it, YES
otherwise i couldnt care less.

reply

Not at all. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and as much as I would love to revisit the TS world, they shouldn't touch it. They've created one of the most perfect trilogies ever, and they need to leave it alone. It's time to create something new for us to fall in love with.

ain't nobody's fault but yours and that boogie's

reply

Was Toy Story 3 needed?

reply

Yes. It ended the story with Andy.

And it ended it perfectly

reply

And? Monster's Inc story was never ended and now they make a prequel.

reply

That's like saying was Deathly Hallows Part 2 needed, was Return of the King needed, was Return of the Jedi needed... every story needs an end.

reply

Meh. They can always find a way to prolong it.

reply

Sad but true. All three films have been about the toys' fear of being abandoned by Andy. Think Toy Story 4 might break that mould?

reply

Toy Story 4 shouldn't happen, because, as you said, the three films have been about Andy...and that's what the point was. Andy's story is done, so that means Toy Story is done.

reply

I totally agree, but I badly phrased my thoughts. What I meant was that all three films were about the toys' fear of being abandoned by their owner. So, still possible to do a 4th one.

reply

i really hope not.

reply

No, the point of the series isn't the toys being abandoned by their owner...it's Andy. It's always been Andy. The Toy Story series isn't only about the toys, it's also about Andy. Now that Andy's out of the picture, there's no need to make more. If they made number 4 with the fear of being abandoned by their new owner...it would pretty much be the first Toy Story again...with a different owner.

No, they should leave the series alone, so they don't ruin it.

reply

In fairness, that's nonsense. Saying the Toy Story films are about Andy is like saying Psycho is about Mrs Bates or Waiting for Godot is about Godot. Andy is little more than a presence that hangs over the story and influences the characters' actions. As the title suggests, it's a story about toys, not a child.

None of that has any bearing on whether Toy Story 4 is a good idea, of course.

reply

There is always a way or another to make the series longer. A new kid for example!

After seeing the 3rd I definitely want a 4th, there wasn't much to this story as it is, since the 3rd skipped a ton of years.

I wish they would have done the 3rd one set right after the 2nd, then the 4th could be set today.

why?? a new toy story can be told in a short film and the 3rd wrapped up the series on a perfect high note!!

reply

I completely agree with you.

reply

I agree with the point, but that doesn't mean to say they have to continue with Toy Story. Pixar need to have fresh ideas to attract today's children and cannot simply recycle Toy Story over and over for all generations.

Anyhow, the beauty of Toy Story is that all ages can enjoy it; parents love Woody and Buzz as much as their offspring.

That's Mister Potato Head to you!

reply

I don't think a fourth one should be made, I think the end of Toy Story 3 was a perfect end to a perfect trilogy.

reply

As much as I like th movies, I hope they don't make a fourth. More likely than not, it would only go downhill. I realize that companies that make movies, etc are in the business of making money, but they should also have the sense to know when it's time to move on to something else.

They are going to be doing a number of short films with the characters, so that's something.

Supermodels...spoiled stupid little stick figures mit poofy lips who sink only about zemselves.

reply

Short-subjects, I have no problems with.

But movie-wise, I still have faith PIXAR will stay true to '3' being enough.

I remember a joke on the Back to the Future commentary with Robert Zemeckis, claiming that 3 was a good number...with 4, you're in danger of angering the Movie Gods. :P

I don't think any other '3' film has gone out on such an emotional high-note.

maybe the should watch the first 2 films then instead of making more? thats what DVD's are for arnt they???

I loved #3, but I agree - #4 is pointless. I mean, they already went through one kid growing up, what else can they really do? It would basically be the same story over again but with a different kid...

I'd like to see a Bug's Life sequel.

But yes, I think TS is over, it concluded the Andy saga. Andy is over and done with. They could make one starring Bonnie, but that's unlikely. I wouldn't mind it, though.

It wouldn't be out of the question though, I mean... kids grow up, but Toys don't age!

reply

[deleted]

Agreed. 3 was a perfect way to end the story, with a new cycle starting. Hopefully when their new kid grows up though it won't be as traumatic :P

reply

Making a Toy Story 4 would be like putting a song after "Love reign O'er me" in Quadrophenia.

I love the story from 1-3 and 4 will spoil it because thats it nobody keeps hold of any old toys you have memories of them, but thats it

Disney should make a new movie about toys maybe with a girl this time
That won't be as successful, but still cute nonetheless

I think there's scope for a TS 4 but taking on a new angle of "are toys as a concept becoming obsolete?" With computer technology getting more advanced and the ever evolving phone juggernaut continuing to dominate society, are kids being kids for less these days?

I say this because a friend of mine's kids have reached the age of 6 and 4 respectively and they are asking for a Blackberry and Ipad for Christmas and birthdays, so they can play with their friends and not even be in the same room/building/town.

It seems in 2012 a lot of kids don't want to be kids anymore in the sense that someone like me who's 31 did when I was a kid. There's less need for imagination because technology and apps do most of the hard work.

So yeah, I think Woody, Buzz and friends could have another adventure with this new challenge
