Cartman's rendition

Anyone heard Eric Cartman telling the joke to his Southpark buddies?

He just grosses them out, without them getting any of the subtler nuances of the joke. He probably doesn't understand the subtler nuances himself.

He's a cartoon character...

"He's a cartoon character..."

I never said otherwise.

The whole bit they did for this in South Park seemed to be making fun of the very concept of this joke itself. Not just telling it.

As much as many people complain about "hurp a durrrp fart jokes" and other such poor attempts to bitch about the fantastic humour of South Park, they are very good at it.

South Park has layers and layers of subtlety, most missed by the audience. But many of the political or ethical episodes, while brutal and dark in pulling it off, are very deep. It works for both audiences. Those who like "dem fart jokes" and those who find it very witty.

Even down to what characters are doing in the background of a crowd or parts of a crowd rolling their eyes, almost missed if you didn't know about it, add to it.

Cartman's was the funniest version, and possibly the ventriloquist.

The rest of the comics were maybe a little too self-regarding?

Cartman didn't get the subtler nuances of the joke? Is THAT a joke?

It sounded exactly like most versions of the joke. The only difference I noticed was that it somehow managed to be slightly funny.
