The Librarians is a better show anyway.

If you're looking for a fun, light hearted series with lots of humor where smart characters have adventures and fight evil. The dialogue drops lots of accurate historical/academic trivia lines too, and, despite having magic, the show is more scientifically literate than what the BBC has been peddling for the past decade.

And while there are a couple of strong (in different ways) female characters and an Asian guy (with an Australian accent), there's no discernible SJW agenda and the characters are actually likable.

yes I really liked The Librarians was watching this before I got into DW.
Shame its now cancelled though still have plenty more DW to watch as only finished season 2 last night of the new ones.
I was recording them on the W channel.

Too bad. At least it ended on a good note and not a cliff hanger.

I enjoyed The Librarians as well. Got into the series from the first Librarian movie ages ago. Glad to take that adventure.

Librarians was okay. I wouldn't say it was free of agendas, it had the typical Hollywood ass kicking female and milquetoast male leads.

Agree on the Rebecca Romijn part, but Cassandra was dainty with a quirky feminine charm despite being a math genius, and I disagree on two of the male leads, Flynn himself and Jacob. They were both depicted as strong fighters, Jacob recruited partially for his brawling talent, were both brilliant, and the show had no problem giving a lot of airtime to two white males (three when you factor in Dan Larroquette's "Galahad", another good character). Jacob even retained his southern accent. Since the 90s those have mostly been purged from tv unless they're attached to villains or others depicted in an unflattering light. Ezekiel was more of a master thief than a fighter but he was hardly milquetoast since he was always doing his own thing regardless of what others thought. I don't recall his Asian status coming up (if it did it wasn't much) and the show didn't obsess over racial or other leftist agendas. They exhibited at least a soft default patriotism and respect for religion as part of the franchise's foundation. The show's humor was traditional, crafted to be funny, and didn't seem rooted in "woke" PC concerns.

If you compare the mannerisms, body language, manner of speaking, etc., between men and women on Librarians, and many (American/Canadian) shows today, you'll see a big difference in assertiveness. The women are outgoing, assertive, and clearly spoken while the men tend to sound like they are making an apology. Women freely punch men and the men always lose, but men are only allowed to punch other men. All intimate (romantic/sexual) contact is initiated by women. Women frequently use violence in connection with intimate contact. It's nothing new and has been happening on low budget shows since the early 2000's but it recently finding its way into more mainstream and bigger budget productions. Compare Flynn Carson in Librarians against Tom Mason in Falling Skies. So yeah, definitely an agenda at work: putting men in a subservient position and making women dominant.

I certainly agree with your broader point. I'll only say that the Librarians wasn't as bad as most recent fantasy/sci fi shows in that regard. I don't recall much in the way of women beating up men apart from Eve's "guardian" character. Most of the fighting was male on male, with women having men do the fighting for them. As for the Carson/Mason comparison, part of that is due to the shows having different tones and the characters being different. Flynn can handle himself in a fight but he is a librarian, not a grizzled military leader bitterly hardened by years of loss in a fight against overwhelming odds.
