Is this even a sci-fi show anymore?

I lost interest as soon as Tom Baker quit in the early 80's. Watched it (only sporadically) until McCoy bowed out (but at very least what I saw, maintained the core themes...time travel, aliens, cheap and cheerful effects, etc)
I then (in all likelihood) grew out of Dr Who around this time (my voice deepened, I sprouted hair in odd places, and beer and women took it's place)
I never bothered (at all) with the reboot (and subsequent actors, most of which I dislike anyhow) but from the limited press ads (etc) I saw, the show seemed to retain the previous core values of yesteryear (although I'm sure the effects likely improved?)
A few years back, I was round my Brothers house (who is still a 'whovian') and I sat through around ten minutes of an episode with the female 'Dr'...it was preachy, garbage (devoid of any actual sci-fi, and emboldened with some SJW agenda) confirming that I'd likely missed nothing since around 1989, anyhow?

Looking at ads, screenshots, news reports, internet reviews for this new series...it looks more like some daytime soap opera (replete with actors stood around, attempting meaningful dialogue and rambling speeches) I understand the new Doctor is now both black and gay?

Whatever happened to some oddly eccentric time traveller fighting (iffy-looking) rubber monsters,on a wobbly set with a creepy (synth-heavy) 'BBC Radiophonic Workshop' soundtrack in the background?

If this Is progress?...I"m happy to be a philistine.
