Finally saw Shazam...Rank The DCEU films

My only real ranking systems is "Personally Like" and "Personally Didn't Like". Of the DCEU films listed Suicide Squad is the only one I'd rank "Personally Didn't Like". Mind you I still own it but I have never watched it again after buying it and checking out the extras.

i still haven't seen aquaman.

i think there are three distinct groups.
a batch of flawed but enjoyable films
bad
& one of the worst major studio films ever released

group 1:

wonder woman was almost great, but to me was let down by its ending. it got everything right up to that point, & had been as good as almost anything else you could name in the cbm world.

& like a lot of other people, i think man of steel is 2/3s of a good movie, until that numbing ending comes along and everything comes grinding to a halt.

shazam is fun, maybe on its own terms the only truly unblemished, genuinely good dcu film. it's very slight & silly, but i think it succeed perfectly at what it's trying to do.

group 2:

bvs is an absolutely ridiculous movie, incoherent, plodding. i know i've seen the extended cut as well as the original, but i couldn't tell you what the differences are. both are absurdly self-serious.

justice league doesn't have anything as embarrassing as 'why did you say that name' & it's far more coherent as a story, which ought to make it better, but i think it's actually worse. at least bvs is kinda fun to hate watch & marvel at how incompetent it is. jl is just blandly dull, & the only really noteworthy aspect of the whole business is how cheap & shoddy it looks at times, particularly towards the end.

then there's suicide squad:
there is a character named captain boomerang ffs.

unrealistically horrible. lifeless, dreary, incoherent. there are a few glimmers of energy in a few spots, but nothing can redeem this ridiculous nonsense. i think this belongs on any list of the worst large budget films ever made.
