Little Miss Sunshine and Star Wars

I can't help but see comparisons between Little Miss Sunshine and Episode IV or Star Wars in general. Here are the ones I've noticed:

Both feature well developed characters that engage in fun, interesting dialogue and back-and-forth banter as they all go on a fun adventure, mostly in a vehicle that's iconic to each film. They don't all get along at first, but by the end of the movie, they're all really close.

The family's VW bus keeps having trouble starting up; the Millennium Falcon keeps having trouble going to lightspeed.

Olive's grandfather, Edwin, trains her to compete in the Little Miss Sunshine beauty pageant, the climax of the movie. Obi-Wan trains Luke in the ways of the Force and guides him in successfully blowing up the Death Star, the climax of that movie.

The grandfather dies about halfway through the movie; Obi-Wan dies about halfway through the movie.

Richard, Olive's father and the vehicle's driver, butts heads with pretty much everyone else. The same goes for Han Solo.

Steve Carell's character is an intelligent, scholarly and sensitive homosexual. And then there's C3P0.

Okay, fair enough. The "old man who dies but still inspires the other characters" is probably in a few other movies. Richard isn't much of a Han Solo really. But still, this is creative.

To be honest, I found it more similarities to National Lampoon Vacation.
Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained? Is this not why you are here?

I agree with you,miguelangel-23!

Just rewatched the movie and found this post.
One: Totally interesting similarities. Any comparisons to Star Wars I'm down for.
Two: One of the writers of Little Miss Sunshine, Michael Arndt, has a hand in writing Ep. 7 of Star Wars. So now we just added an extra dose of comparison to your post. BOOM.
