Finest showcase for Di Caprio's prodigious talent.
He has received plaudits for many a performance, but humbly, I declare Blood Diamond to be his finest hour. He convinced me beyond belief as an initially ruthlessly insouciant smuggler turned sympathetic man. It could've been implausible, but Leo's unwavering intensity had me enthralled for the flick's duration. Physically, the performance was impressive too - apparently he underwent some rigorous training to master some of what's required for firefights etc. His final moments before succumbing to his fate (after turning the diamond over to Vandy) moved me. I like how they didn't overplay the Leo/Connelly romance subplot too, it was more implicit which I appreciated. And what a powerful picture overall - I can honestly say I was enraptured by it.
