I hate that its set in the past

Captain Marvel had this problem too. In BVS shes already established in the modern why not continue there? Even in their comic Debuts Wonder Woman and MS Marvel were just put in the current canons of their eras. The Sequel is gonna be in the 80s and I bet the third movie is gonna be called WW2k or WW2000. I hear even the new Animated film Bloodlines is a modern day orgin story for WW

Bloodlines? Nah. If anything it was a showcase for her entire rogues gallery. The female ones anyway.

because they are all set in modern times.

I guess this one was meant as more of an origin movie. Yes, we'd seen her in Batman vs Superman, but this was showing how Diana left her island. Wonder Woman, though a popular character, hasn't really had much in the way of live action appearances on screen. Younger audiences may not be familiar with the Lynda Carter series.

Unlike say Batman who has had his origins on screen several times previously, to the point that we don't need to see it again, this is Wonder Woman's first solo feature film. I have no issue with them explaining her origin here.

Also, it would seem a waste of a long-living character if every movie was set in the modern times.

Exactly 👍

reply

Technically it is set in modern time, but most of the movie is a flashback.

The setting works well, and this film was very well done.
But they pretty much copied Captain America -- red, white and blue pure-hearted hero fights in a World War with a band of misfit commandos, and both movies end with a heroic plane crash.

reply

Yes, but in Captain America we were introduced to America's ass.

reply

I had wondered at the time why they set it during WWI and not WWII but the trench warfare made for a good setting.

reply

Yeah--I assume it was a strategic move needed to avoid showing nazi emblems/showing them over and over in the screen play....and being accused of covertly attracting racists into the theaters.

What sequel?
