Mickey rourke?

Is Rourke's performance in The Wrestler better than Forest Whittaker's in this one?

reply

I'd say they're equal, personally.

Besides, they're too different to really give a fair comparison.

Way too different. Rourke's use of his own life for reference gave the wrestler character so much gravity and real world depth, Whitaker's role was so absorbing and terrifying. I'd never try comparing them, both vital performances.

Two great performances, two great films. I am however interested to know why the OP picked these specific two characters for comparison.

I agree - strange comparison. One a real life person where you can compare and the other a fictional character with no reference for direct comparison. Both performances were excellent for sure, but Whittaker got Amin down so precisely this could be the most accurate portrayal of a real person ever ... definitely his best performance and one which he doesn't seem to be able to reach the heights of since. Also, McAvoy's performance was similarly excellent.
