Why the movie is insanely maddening

The crisis and the solution revolved around the uninvolved westerner's danger and flight, when really the story should have been about the local doctor who was trying to keep a fine balance while navigating his whole life in his own country and then died becaue of a moment of brave humanity towards an irresponsible, naive outsider.

Yes, that would have been an interesting movie, too - but a different one.

Not all films have to be about good, high-minded people: we often learn just as much from the stories of those whose motivations and lives are rather less admirable. Fortunately there is room for both.

The movie ends as the white guy gets to leave the brown mess unharmed, and we all take a sigh of relief. the worst have been avoided, life goes on etc. apparently the only people that matter are the people who look (and dress and behave)like the people we see in the mainstream of hollywood. the movie could very well be about this guy, but to not be called out for narrowness it'd still have to be a different movie .
