...Garrigan to have underwear on beneath his yellow shorts?? The nudity seemed a little unnecessary. None-the-less, I thank the makers of the film for the James McAvoy nude scene!

The yellow shorts WERE his underwear. He was sleeping in them, thus the need to change completely out of them when he was getting ready to leave. Anyway I only rented this b/c I'm a huge McAvoy fan, so this scene was a VERY pleasant surprise for me.

It was an important part of the charactor developement, for it was Amin's saying, I've bought you this house, your car, your cloths, you have no close doors nor privacy from me, because I own you completely.
Nicholas was obviously uncomfortable with the situation, for he knew it was another deferance to Amin's power and possession over his, and he was in no position to ask him to leave.
I don't know who you think you're calling ridiculous, but the script did NOT call for McAvoy to take his underwear off to show Amin's power over him. McAvoy said it was his own idea and he and Whitaker laughed because they thought it was funny; only later did they realize it demonstrated Amin's possession of Nicholas.
