Alright, lets vote--origjnal or remake

Like most remakes a fan of the original will be more critical than someone who never saw the 1st version. I really liked Jason Stratham in THe Transporter, but have to vote for the original even with better special effects now a days. I have always been fascinated by the subject of hitmen.I heard one on a call in show one time. He claimed he didnt worry about being prosecuted for what he said, since in court he could just say he made it up. I love that game "Mafia Wars". Anybody else play? I found a great guide to improve your standing in the "family". Check it out below.

Original is superior.

Modern special effects never make for a better movie ipso facto.

there was an "original" ? finally! I movie I'm too young to have known about...

Then you must see it!
If you don't we may have to sanction you.

Some folks rate the original as the best "Hitman" movie of all time.

For me, I have a 3-way tie for the top, they are all just too damn good.

(In no particular order....)
The Mechanic: (Original)
Leon: The Professional (133 minute version)
The Jackal: (Remake with Bruce Willis)

Bronson was perfect, I like the remake, but the original accomplished more without the extra stuff available today.
Yes, and Leon BTW was an awesome one, to be4 disconnected from society, only focus was work, then getting a new mission, acquired on his own.

Wasn't me

Are you kidding? Charles Bronson and Jan Michael Vincent(before he became a wastoid Alchy). Great movie!!

@dolemite72

Well, I finally went and saw the thing last night...

I agree with you 100%
While the film isn't a bad one, I enjoyed it. It bears little resemblance to the original story.
I think they tried to change it as much as possible because they knew one inescapable truth.
NOBODY can touch Charles Bronson in the roll of a Hitman! It just can't be done.

A true and kinda funny story; I was a little kid (10yrs) the first time I saw The Mechanic. I was so awed by his natural fit to the role that I asked my dad if Bronson was a hitman before he became an actor. lmao.

Well with the original you had Charles Bronson who was a major action star in like his Death Wish movies and then you had Jan Michael Vincent who would be big as a star as well. It has been years since I have seen the original The Mechanic because I can remember when programming 30 almost close to 40 years ago they would show films that would entertain pretty much anyone and everyone. I do not see that today in the cable programming or if you use a satelite at all. They show the same darn movies over and over again. It is pretty much the much newer films. The only way you get a variety is if the network is not a major one and it is a local station they may show films like this on TV for some entertainment. It would be nice to see a major network start experimenting to get different demographics and show some of the classic films with modern films as well. I would go for that.

I liked the remake of The Mechanic but I have to say you can never beat the original film.

The remake was okay, but its version of the story and plot pales in comparison to the original's.

So those who saw the remake but not the original have a real treat in store.

Remake. Jason Statham = enough said.

I liked the re-make. The original is a classic though. Its a movie I saw many years ago, but it will stick with you, like it did me.
Its why Charles Bronson is considered 'great'.

So don't vote until you see the original with Jan-Michael Vincent, and neither movie is bad.

Both

I didn't see the original; but I knew of it before this went into even pre-production.

It's just nice to see a remake (finally) that didn't fail on so many levels.

The remake isn't the complete disaster I thought it would be, but it was still pretty awful. The original is one of my fav. movies of all time.

The ending in the original in was played out an awful lot better than the remake, and I don't like the fact that they are just leaving it open to more sequels.

I enjoyed this remake, but overall, I would have to go with the good old Charles Bronson original.
