What is with the British Accents that ruined the film
Surely they could have learned a language with that budget.
BTW I didn't think Jake could have done this film but he was awesome.

It's an English language film that is not about Americans. Why use American accents even though British is the "cleanest" and most accurate accent for the English language? It's a common trope that is done for consistency, because the British accent is the standard.
And just in case anyone things that I'm a British language snob, FYI I am an American and I've never even been to the UK.
Considering Persia is yesterday's Iran, I think a Middle Eastern accent would have been far more appropriate and believable.
I strongly agree with the OP. That British accent was really distracting considering this all took place in the desert.

I'm not saying it's right, but it's pretty standard. Watch any sci fi or fantasy that takes place in another land or space. Lots of British accents. share
For some reason they love using British accent in movies where none of the characters are really supposed to speaking English. It was the same with Gladiator, Enemy at the Gates, etc. I'm think they even did British accents in the Scorpion King.

shareAmerican English is the international "standard". The Chinese learn how to spell using American standard, not British.

International "standard"? Not actually it's not.
"English English" is one of the UN's official standard Official Languages. It is written and spoken by just about every diplomat in the world. In UN business, even US embassies use it as their norm.
Airline pilots and ships' captains use it too.
And there are vastly more English speakers in Europe (Scandinavia, Germany, Netherlands), India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Africa, and even the Middle East than in China - up in the hundreds of millions - and "English English" is what they all speak.
If you go to where the movie took place it is mainly "English English" accents you will hear.
Science can use either, though some international societies and academic publications require "English English" to be their norm.

Suggested comeback?! American English is closer in accents and spellings and use of many words to what was spoken in England 200-300-400 years ago. It is "English English" that moved away.
