Taking Westworld out of Westworld was a mistake

Thats when the show went downhill, its called Westworld yet the actual Westworld becomes an afterthought and all of season 3 takes place in a futuristic city something we've seen countless times. Thats when it got boring, i wanna see old west shit, i wanna see shootouts with gangs and horse chases and people getting hanged and Indians scalping people.

Taking us out of the unique entertaining setting of the west and into a standard boring futuristic city, a setting we've seen hundreds of times in future movies, self driving cars and all was the mistake. And Aaron Paul's character was so boring and all the car chases and gunfights in the city got old real fast.

The setting of the old west set the show apart, cause we haven't really had a big budget old west show aside from Deadwood in like 2004, which wasn't really a big budget show.

If you planned on taking the show out of Westworld why call the entire show Westworld? should have just called it Devos, cause Westworld is just an afterthought in season 3.

The Man In Black was by far the best character in the show, then you take him out of Westworld and all of season 3 has him has some beaten down old man losing his mind and locked up and barely in the show. I wanna see him dressed in black with his hat and gun maliciously killing people in the old west, i don't care to see William in the real world doing jack shit but sitting around drinking and talking.

I think this should have been a limited tv series - one season - 2 seasons tops.

I agree. Probably should have stopped with season 1. 2 is not bad but a disappointment. 3 is bad, it doesn't seem like the same show as season 2. Too many changes and not in a good way.

I would agree.

Having said that there was only so much source material to work with so they had to do something.

The concept put forward of an AI "world" so to speak with the simulations running on that server out on the outskirts of the park was interesting but also kind of put it into matrix territory.

Once everything can just be re-ran again as another iteration of simulation then the real stakes of what it means to exist are gone.

reply

Sorry, no. If they had stayed in the parks, it would be a really stale show by now.

Going out into the world was inevitable and was possibly even in Ford's design (perhaps even those of Arnold Weber).

Westworld isn't about the parks or the host technology / renegade robots—it's about humans first and foremost, their evolution in ways far beyond behavior found in the parks. And it's also a story of the host AI evolution, which obviously had to go somewhere else (out of the park) after the events of S1.
