Michael Pena is brilliant

Man the skillset of retelling stories

reply

Agreed. Pena is great. He really showed his range in this.

The approach they took to his character was really refreshing, I don't recall seeing anything comparable to that before, and how he keeps a straight face for the most part during all of it. Can't wait for more of that in future installments, whether it's AM&tW or some other team movie. Wish they'd have incorporated him and the other two amigos into some of the TV stuff like Agents of SHIELD. If the agency is looking for people who are loyal and can be trusted as well as those with talent, those guys would be great choices, plus their personalities would be hilariously different than anyone else on that team.

reply

Yeah I'm so used to seeing him in more serious roles, and he was almost over the top comical in this, and it was great!

How can you tell if someone's a compulsive liar? I mean, assuming their pants aren't on fire?

Really liked him in this but kept being reminded of his character from Observe and Report. Not a bad thing, just saying

He was awful.

Any other inciteful thoughts you would like to add to the discussion?

Rant over. You can all return to your normal lives.

Him and TI were great. Although I think this film is a lot goofier than other marvel films I found it hilarious in parts because those two and Paul Rudd

Big fan of Peña. That beginning though, when he picks up Lang and they're driving in the van...

"Hey how's your girlfriend?"

"Oh she left me. My grandma died. And my dad got deported."

I lol'd hard at that.

Firefly; like Teletubies in space, if Mal was purple...

reply

"But I got the van!"

hahaha how did I leave out the best part?!

reply

He is indeed a versatile actor... I became his fan after watching 'End of Watch'... Man that movie belongs to him... He even outdid Jake Gyllenhaal in that...

reply

I loled when TI takes that cellphone pic of the waffle with the whipped cream and strawberry on top.

reply

Am I the only one who thought it was hilarious that he seemed to knockout everyone in one punch lol! He did mention when he picked up Paul Rudd From Jail that he was the only one to ever knockout the gang leader in jail.

reply

I liked that they even made that a disadvantage to him once, in that he knocked out that huge guy -- and then needed to drag him out of the building.

The story had all these little details that were great, and Pena and the other actors made the most of every opportunity.

The story he retells at the end was the best scene from the entire movie. I laughed so hard how everyone was synced to his way of talking. 

Damn straight, that scene was genius, with those different characters lip synching to his narration. The guy was superb in this, he even lifted the mediocre jokes above average - "back it up, yeah just back it up, back it up now" 😁

The lip-sync thing is amazing! I've never seen anything like that before. This movie is very entertaining and the flying sequences blew me away!

That's a lot of terabytes!

I too enjoyed Pena in this, it was nice to see him being a little silly. I also really got a kick out of the lip syncing bits. For those of you who enjoyed the lip synced story telling you should check out a show called "Drunk History". It's pretty amusing, especially if you catch it in the right frame of mind.

I agree. He played a brilliant idiot, I mean, it was way faster to simply say, "The Falcon is looking for ya". LOL

reply

He was brilliant... I havent laughed this hard in quite some time... back it up.. back it up... :D :D
