I imagined it would be a noir

Read almost all of the Nancy Drew books as a kid and I always pictured a dark crime/noir genre. And they made this into some adventure/comedy kids film? I was severely disappointed.

Actually for a kids film I was surprised they went so crime-noir with the movie.

It had action and car chases, guns and even some dangerous moments with Nancy. Also loved the over the top suspense music they used as a throwback to the 50's.

You mean the subtext in the film about Nancy solving mysteries as a way to distract herself from the tragedy of losing her mother - rather than accepting it - wasn't noir enough for you?

I would like to read the early Nancy Drew mysteries at some point. To see how her original creation was meant to be. I take it that the character has changed over the years to satisfy the ever-changing contemporary tastes.

I am a fan of the old vintage noir. With the story involving the old movies being shown of a film star's career, still being watched by Lushing, I was reminded of the old classic noir 'Sunset Blvd.'
