He didn't have to kill so many copies! It'd be way easier if...

He could have just let the first copy live, then he would have had two of himself! They could have done the trick easily, the same way that Borden did!

You think that's air you're breathing now?

It wouldn't work as they both have the desire to be the prestige and not the man in the box.
It didn't work for Calvin (and Hobbes either) None of the clones would do homework or clean the room.

He had no idea when Borden would show up to try to figure out the secret to the trick and then frame him for murder.
This is also the reason for the 100 shows, to get Borden to pay attention and drive him mad.

Well I thought that Borden showing up was part of his plan all along?

And as for the 100 shows, I thought that he limited them because he knew he'd have to kill his double 100 times and didn't want to continue to commit murder. If you can call it murder that is lol.

Disposing of 100 bodies would be more than enough for most people.

Well, for it to be a "plan all along" it relied on too many factors Angier couldn't control. Borden could decide not to go, he could ambush him on the balcony instead, he could watch second Angier drown and depart without making a sound. There was no way for Angier to make Borden do *exactly* what he was expected to.

It's more likely that Angier simply wanted Borden to fret over a riddle without an answer, but when he heard the commotion from the understage he figured there's an opportunity to solve his quarrel with Borden once and for all.

He knew Borden so well, he could anticipate what Borden would do.

No. He wanted to kill Borden if he could get away with it.

Ponder a riddle?????? That is absolutely absurd.

That excuse is so poor that it's not even funny.

He didn't want to just kill Borden, he wanted to beat him.

He wanted Borden to die knowing Angier was better.

Seize the moment, 'cause tomorrow you might be dead.
