Why didnt Borden tell his wife? (major spoiler)

!!!SPOILER!!!

I dont get it, it seemed that the pain and emotional suffering Borden and his wife had to go through because of the constant character switching was unnecessary. Why couldnt Borden just tell his wife what was actually going on. Borden should have seen the suicide (or at least her leaving him) coming. I am sure she would have been able to keep the secret because his trick was their main source of income.
I actually consider this a plot hole, it really doesnt matter how obssesed Borden was with the total commitment to his trick, he should have realized that just telling his wife the truth would be a lot safer in keeping his trick a secret (his wife could just as easily have figured out the ruse on her own, and then used it to Blackmail Borden because of his selfish behaviour) and much less emotionally stressful for Borden.

That's not a plot hole. You can't just will it to be.

Let's be bad guys.

Because he was a jerk who loved his brother and his act, but not his wife. Love precludes such behavior. Not a plot hole, just an action that really makes Borden an unsympathetic character.

You also have to see it in the context of the "chinese" magician and the goldfish bowl. Borden was the one that spotted that trick straight away - the idea that the guy's whole life was an act just for the purpose of that one trick - because Borden himself (or himselves :) ) was already living precisely such a life, and had been for some time. They were obsessive about it, having decided at an early age that they were going to live as one person for this reason.

Not a plot hole.
Do you actually think Borden's wife would accept that her husband is with her only every other day, spend several days a week with his brother, and let him sleep with his brother's girlfriend?

If you do, you know nothing about women. And, they can't keep a secret besides.

It's funny that the audience knows Borden has a twin but can't be sure about Angier. (unless you're good at figuring out the plot early as I did.)

The dedication to their trick clearly knew no bounds, so it did indeed matter. Sarah probably wouldn't be able to live with the truth anyway.

You want something corny? You got it!
