Sara's suspicions

It's obvious that 'Borden' has a 'notch', cut, whatever, in his left eyebrow. 'Fallon', from what I can tell, does not. If I'm following this correctly and Borden and Fallon were switching places, shouldn't Sara (sp) have noticed her husband's eyebrow?

Or am I missing the whole point?

The missing patch in Christian Bale's eyebrow in some scenes has been noted before on this board. However, in some scenes it's one brother, in others it's the other brother. Hence the eyebrow is not a clue to which brother (the one who loved Sarah or the one who loved Olivia) was being Borden in each scene. Probably it's just an incidental goof by the makeup department, and as a result Bale had the "broken" eyebrow in any subsequently filmed scene where he isn't wearing any disguise.

What I really wonder about is how did she not suspect Fallon for being Alfred with the cut fingers, she would ask at least!

reply

Well, he was always wearing gloves and not flaunting his hands to attract attention to them.

IMO, "Always wearing gloves" for those many years is indeed a suspicious deed itself.

"Nobody cares about the man in the box!" Fallon was regarded as just an obsure minion, an employee in the service of The Professor (Alfred Borden). Sarah never had any close contact with Fallon, and had no reason to pay attention to him. She never noticed that Fallon was missing the same fingers as her husband. (Jess may have noticed though.)

If I remember correctly, Cutter, The Great Danton and Lord Caldlow always wore gloves too when they were in public. It seems to have been customary in that era.
