American TV could learn from this show.

Happened across this show on Youtube after also happening upon Garth Marengi's Darkplace. These British shows are absolutely hilarious and we don't even air them in the U.S. The IT Crowd is one of the best comedies I've ever seen. The entire cast is funny and likeable. I've just finished watching every episode and now I'm pretty sad to see it end. I love the world these characters live in. What other shows can Brits recommend? The only American comedies I can watch are The Big Bang Theory and Parks and Recreation.

You lost me at "The Big Bang Theory".

This did air in the US on IFC a while back. And PBS and BBCAmerica air quite a few british shows. Or of course you can always watch them online. If you have Xfinity BBCA has quite a few full seasons of some of their shows online. I'm obviously not a Brit but I do watch a few british shows. I'd definitely recommend Coupling, Fawlty Towers, Keeping Up Appearances, A Bit of Fry and Laurie, The Mighty Boosh, Miranda, Jeeves and Wooster, Blackadder, The Office, The Inbetweeners... they aren't all exactly like The IT Crowd but if you like british humor then you're sure to enjoy them.

You like The IT Crowd?

OK may I suggest...

Father Ted.
Black Books.
Jam.

They are all written by Graham Linehan and follow a similar style of humor.

Then there are also...

Nathan Barley.
Brass Eye. (one of the best shows ever)

Written by Chris Morris who played Denholm in The IT Crowd. One of British comedies greatest talents.

You also may want to check out...

Spaced.
Coupling.

Not connected to The IT Crowd at all. But 2 great comedy shows.

If Jesus was a Jew, why does he has a Mexican first name?

Father Ted is not British!

If you've seen the US pilot of The IT Crowd or the US version of Coupling you realize they (we), can't.

Ugh, I watched the pilot and it was just gawdaweful. I guess there is an American style of comedy, and I'm completely uninterested in it (even as an American). The Big Bang Theory also fell into this style of oversimplification while over-acting, and is part of the reason I really can't tolerate that show either.

I can recommend 'Peep Show', it's one of my favourite british shows, also 'I'm Alan Partridge' is fantastic, or perhaps 'Spaced'?

American shows i think you may want to check out are 30 Rock, Eastbound and Down and It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia if you haven't already.

Also, a series called Lucky Louie created by Louis CK, only one season (13 episodes) was made, but it is excellent.

Of course humour is all subjective, but judging from the shows you like, i think i gave some good suggestions.

Good luck and have fun.

Most of the shows I like have already been recommended I will add "Summer Heights High" though, Aussie show that was bloody brilliant.

You might also like "The Flight of the Conchords", a quirky american show about 2 kiwis in new york.

You can have a quote by Don Draper and yet admit you like the Big Bang Theory? WTF?

Holy smoke
My future's bleak
Ain't it neat?"
