Did he have to visit all those places by conventional means first?

Like how he went to the bank, used the bathroom, then came back by teleporting. Did he have to fly to Egypt, Rome, etc., the first time so he could teleport to visit later?

Yes, yes he did.

How do you suppose he got on top of the Sphinx the first time? And the face of Big Ben.

reply

I think maybe those could be line of sight things. Like he went to England on a plane and stood near Big Ben, like he did with Millie's balcony. It was close and he could see it. He also jumped into the vault after just looking inside. It seems more like if he has seen it in person he can jump to it, rather than having to be in the exact spot he wants to go to.

Makes sense.

I wish IMDB email notifications worked better. I only saw this now because someone else replied below.

I know this is a two year old post.

The email notifications only mention when someone replies to your post, not when someone replies to somebody else's post (that is a reply to your post). It would be nice if they gave a notification if anybody replies to any post in the thread.

Yes, agreed. Or have a "follow this post" checkbox.

That's easy, he traveled to Egypt and England first and by watching the monuments from the ground he can teleport to the top.

reply

Isn't that why he had all those pictures around his house

reply

He needs to have seen the location with his own eyes first. The pictures help him remember.

In the book he goes so far as to use a video camera and narrate the sights, sounds, and smells, too.
