Can somebody explain???

I'm sort of perplexed with how this contend for the 2008 Oscars when it was released in 2006. Julie Christie should have been in the 2007 Oscars instead.I'm not so sure, correct me if I'm wrong but she should have been nominated the year earlier(the year when Helen Mirren won the Oscar for The Queen).

It was released in Canada in late 2006 (and even then only at a couple of film festivals during that year), but was not released in the U.S. until 2007 and so the Academy would most likely not have been aware of it until then.
