Did you mind the age-difference?

Do you think that the 17 years age difference was a bit off-putting? I personally didn't have an issue. It felt like an odd match in the beginning, however it quickly grew on me. The chemistry was there.

Whats your take?

Just watched it... not really. I'm assuming Drew's character was supposed to be late 20's early 30's? so it's not like she's fresh out of high school hooking up with an washed up Popstar. Not to mention her ex boyfriend the Prof. looked way out older then Hugh Grant's character.

Actually it's stated that since her sister is 38 and she is 7 years younger, that makes Sophie 31. Using 2007 (the release date for the film as the line), that makes Sophie born in 1976 (Rhonda in 1969, though Kristen Johnson was born in 1967). Now supposed in 1984, Alex is in his early 20s, born about 1960 (much like Hugh Grant by the way). In 2007, that makes him 47 to her 31 -- about the same distance as Sloane and Sophie, and Campbell Scott (born 1961) and Drew Barrymore (born 1975).

Now sure to someone who's like 16 or 20 someone who's 16 years older may seem creepy or gross, but once you're well into adulthood (like over 30), the age gap greatly reduces... short of a 25 year old and an 85 year old (yes, I'm talking another famous Hugh here).

its on now and I've seen it a few times and its only since i just read this thread then looked up at them that i realised thats theres an age gap, never thought about it before lol. doesn't bother me though.

Once both parties are late-20s it's not a real issue anymore.

It's one of a few times I didn't really notice that.

I think because they seem right together the age difference doesn't really seem important!

I think the chemistry between the two leads in this film works really well such that the age difference is ultimately of no consequence.
