No Romantic Chemistry

I hear that expression all the time & could never quite put my finger on how one would determine whether castmates had it or not. That was until I saw this film...I love Drew & Hugh is delightful as well but the two together were a combination for disaster. I just didn't buy it. Am I alone?

Am I alone?

Seems like it. At least so far. That's what's good about being able to think for yourself. Since I enjoy both of them, I just didn't think about romantic chemistry......just accepted that it happened. Two good-looking, talented people could have it happen. Sorry it wasn't happening for you.

I felt there was great chemistry.

You're not alone. Their romance seems to be more of a concept than reality. It is more because of the one-night stand, convenience, and favors than actual affection, attraction, compatibility, or commitment. I see no passion in Alex's eyes for Sophie in the movie. I do see a strong friendship. If only the movie allows the friendship to develop more before turning it into this idealistic romance. The scene when Sophie realizes and is moved that Alex is singing about her is quite contrived.

The day I have to pay someone to water my plants I'll just shoot myself. Especially if she can't manage to deal with being pricked by a cactus then demanding a bandage and antiseptic cream. The pretence is of course silly but as far as chick flicks go I liked most of the rest of this one.

Oh and I agree the chemistry was not the best. Alex needs to head for Thailand and get a "negotiation" and Sophie needs a sensitive Greenpeace volunteer in a turtle neck. At the end when Alex and Cora are fully into the Way Back Into Love song I thought it was ridiculous for Alex to run offstage to kiss Sophie, leaving Cora to finish by herself. Feelgood climactic moment gone astray.

I loved them together. Their relationship could have been fleshed-out a bit more, but overall, I thought they were really good together.

I agree with OP. I love both of them but together it felt forced.
