Drew annoyed me with her singing....

She gets all nervous when she finds out she has to sing on the demo, but once she starts singing, she really hams it up, mugging incessantly during her performance....very annoying.

Wow, why don't you tell us how you really feel!
I enjoyed the movie and thought Drew was very good.

I love Drew Barrymore, but I didn't like her in this movie. I felt her and Hugh Grant had ZERO chemistry and do feel she was miscast. I can't see anyone other than Hugh Grant in this movie... he was phenomenal! I overall like Drew's movies, but I was disappointed with her in this one.

I thought she did a really good job. Her and Hugh were sweet together. I loved the movie. I guess it's too bad for you.

Me too. I liked her in this film. That one scene probably should have been less cheesy, but overall, I thought they had good chemistry and the story was entertaining.

I do like this movie, enough to have watched it at least a dozen times. The Pop Goes My Heart video is a hilarious opening and Hugh Grant was funny and likeable throughout most of the movie (little pelvic thrusts singing "Meaningless Kiss" LOL). I agree with some, however, that Drew Barrymore lacked chemistry with him, and her character Sophie was annoying several times (and remotely likeable other times).

Starting when she first appeared as the "plant girl" and started cluelessly flinging water everywhere and promptly pricked her finger on a cactus (surprise). The whole paranoid "do you have a band aid and antibiotic cream" thing made her look really stupid. The freaking-out over the Sloan Cates thing was way over-acted too. And yes her singing was pretty painful. At least Hugh Grant can carry a tune (very well in fact). Sophie's sister Rhonda was great by the way, drooling over Alex and shoving all the other middle-aged ladies aside, but then I just wanted to shout at Sophie "take the bleeping picture already!"

Did I mention I like this movie? One last crticism however - the very ending when Alex runs offstage before the song has ended, to kiss Sophie in obvious plain view of the Madison Square Garden audience and Sophie litterally throws her legs around him. Sucky ending IMO. Unconvincing couple. And now back to Hugh Grant being hilarious...

and don't say "it's just a movie", this is IMDB - duh, a movie website.

On the contrary, I found her most enjoyable to watch. She created a character that is completely unlike anything I've ever seen her do. She was bubbly without being obnoxious, quirky without being over the top, and just cute! I thought Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant really complimented each other - their characters (or rather, the way they portrayed them) were contrasts with a few similarities (insecurity, for example).

I personally love this movie, especially the recording session part. Hugh kind of looks at Drew like "holy cow, you can actually carry a tune!" And Drew acted like a lot of people I know act when they're nervous about singing in front of someone else.

so does that tell you that shes a good actress

reply

Euh, sorry but actors follow a script. If you didnt like it blame it to the director, etc, not to her.

Drew can't act, nor sing. Just leave it at that. As long as someone keep casting her, she is going to continue being annoying.

yes, she can't sing, she doesn't have to be a singer. it's not her job. she CAN act and she gets the recognition she deserves and she did amazing in this film as well.

reply

She can't act for *beep* The only reason she gets work is bacause Stephen Spielberg is her god father.

I just bought the soundtrack and it's interesting, there are both versions of "Way Back Into Love" included, the exact scene of Hugh and Drew's version including dialogue, and then Hugh and Cora Corman's totally professional full blown version. I actually like both, one's funny, one's serious.
