'Meaningless Kiss' and 'Careless Whisper'

I'm sitting here typing this while listening to my iPod on shuffle.

Just as "Don't Look Back in Anger" ended. "Meaningless Kiss" from MnL plays. Doesn't it sound a lot, if not exactly, like "Careless Whisper" by George Michael????

Same music, same idea...

Schlesinger stated in CNN interview:
"I wrote one called "Meaningless Kiss," which was an '80s pastiche... it wasn't the big one that opens the movie, it was the more ballady hit, like "Careless Whisper" or something, and it had the cheesy saxophone riff in it."

Actually the fictional band Pop! based on Wham! and Hugh's character based on Andrew Ridgeley.

Oh I thought that Hugh's character was based on George Michaels.

after the band's split other guy became the huge star (like George Michael) but Hugh's character totally forgotten (like Ridgeley).
