Could Anyone Really Believe...

that Cora could be the biggest Pop star in the world (Bigger than Britney and Christina put together) by injecting that whole Mid East vibe into her music? Not in this country (US) anyway.

BTW: How many concerts have you been where the peformer announces before the song, who the writers and composers are?

reply

The injection of eastern spirituality was a parody of Madonna's Kabbalah leanings.
What really strained credulity was that Alex Fletcher's solo cd would remain on the racks that long. It would've been remaindered out of inventory long ago. Also, a man who looks forward to the State Fair tour for income stream probably wouldn't be living quite so large in NYC.

That could easily be explained away with royalties.

But as far as the Madonna parody: If that's what they were attemping, they were way off. We all know Madonna is full of sh!t. This character was being serious about it. But really, how many 12 year old girls would be saying, "Shante Shante" with their hands in prayer position. Please.

I hadn't really given this a lot of thought before I saw your post (suspension of disbelief and all that) ...but if there was a point, then it might have just been the way that a lot of young fans do dress like or try to act like their favourite celebrities.

There are two types of movies on cable; the good ones, and the ones that are on when you're home!

Well, he was a special guest on the poster, though.

The dumb thing that didn't make sense to me was that Cora would have him play what was essentially a personal song to Sophie, and let his singer/songwriter vibe destroy the high energy tone of her show for even one song.

He should have sun that song to Sophie over the answering machine or the phone or anywhere but Cora's concert.

reply

Well, it is, after all, fiction. Anything can happen. Cora was impressed with "romance" which is why she changed her interpretation of the song....so Alex could win Sophie. She would find it very romantic for Alex to sing this, thinking of herself as an aid to Alex's love life. Isn't it grand that reality doesn't have to intrude in everything? Yeah!!!

Hmm, good question. I can't imagine that the US culture would embrace that kind of music. It's just too different.
