Surprisingly, I liked this movie.

I wanted to see it, but I never actually thought I'd like it. When the 80's music video came on, I thought I was going to die (being born in '92). But, I actually found it catchy. Scary. This was a really good movie.

Well, I'm still watching it, and missed the first 15 minutes or so, but I was surprised at how clever and enjoyable it is. Besides pretty damn good writing, especially for a contemporary, Hollywood chick-flick, this has a really good cast. And any movie with Matthew Morrison is worth a good look, in my book.

reply

I'll take your word for it, since I have no idea who Matthew Morrison is.

Matthew was the original Link Larkin in HAIRSPRAY on Broadway, and is currently starring on Broadway again, as Lt. Cable, in SOUTH PACIFIC. Judging from the original cast recording of LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA, he was wonderful in that Broadway musical too. He's just too cute (but really good), even in smallish parts like Cora's manager in MUSIC AND LYRICS, or the cop ticketing Steve Carrell's character in DAN IN REAL LIFE.

OK...I'm a chick, so I realize this type of movie is traditionally made for my 'audience,' but I was surprised how clever AND sweet this movie was. (I'm among the 8 women who to this day LOATHES The English Patient, so I am not predisposed to like chick flicks as a whole.)

I thought Grant was pitch perfect casting for this role, and Kristen Johnson stole her scenes as well. I had absolutely no plans to ever see this movie, and had it on in the background when I was doing something else one day, and I'll be darned if I didn't think it was one of the most pleasantly surprising movies I happily rewatch.

I am kinda shocked, tho, that 'Way Back Into Love' wasn't nominated for an Oscar for best original song. I mean, it was actually a good song, it was a very important 'character' in the film, Norbit got a nod for God's sake for something...so it certainly can't be attributed to 'serious-ness' of a film. How could it have been overlooked?

I enjoyed the movie for 3 reasons:

1. Hugh & Drew ....about time they worked together.

2. They totally nailed the 80s pop-video culture with the "Pop, goes my heart" single.

3. The character of Cora was a great dig at the sexual flamboyancy of Britney/Christina/Shakira generation of singer/dancers.

I LOVE this movie! I thought it was really cute, funny, and had fabulous music. I have now watched it like 10 times and know all of the songs by heart. I find myself singing the songs constantly!

As a rule I avoid chick flicks, but this happened to be on HBO when I turned on my TV and I thought Grant's role was really well written as the slightly cynical and rude but generally affable guy. I was reminded of his role in Two Weeks Notice, which was another of the rare chick flicks I found enjoyable (largely for the same reasons).

Incidentally, I'd say this movie has the best use of an end-credit summary I've ever seen the way it was used in the Pop-Up Video style (I miss Pop-Up Video).

Hugh Grant was too cute in this movie. Even though he has aged, he still has alot of sex appeal.

This is one of the best kept 'feel good' movies out there. I recommend it to everyone. I laugh out loud every time I watch it. I also hear something new that makes me laugh every time. It is just FUN!

It is a fun movie and Drew and Hugh looked like they had a lot of fun making it. Good chemistry.

I really LOVED this movie. I'm a romantic comedy kind of girl anyway, so it fit right in as being a favorite with me. Plus, I love any movies that are made in NYC. I love NY! And both "Pop Goes My Heart" and "Way Back Into Love" were catchy tunes. I intend to add this movie to my DVD collection.

I Love....ME!!!!

This movie was surprisingly pleasant for me

I wasn't expecting much, as it is a romantic comedy and I don't remember it being a hit when it came out, but I loved it!
