lyric question...Alex's little song at the end

I just love the "something extrordinary" song Hugh Grant character sings at the end of the movie, to tell Sofie how he feels.

There is a line in there I dont know what he means...
"I havent felt like this since before Franki said 'relax'"

Did I miss something here..?? I got the dig about killing all his plants, but was there some scene edited out to which this lyric refers ?

Sorry, but I am a Hugh Grant nut, and just love the song- want it to make sense.

thanks for the help here, imdb

He was referring to the song "Relax" by the band Frankie Goes To Hollywood whom they also mentioned during the Battle of the 80's Has-beens meeting. I think Frankie died in the 90's if I am not mistaken.

I don't think there ever really was a "Frankie". Frankie Goes To Hollywood's lead singer, Holly Johnson, unfortunately has been HIV positive since at least 1993 but, thankfully, he's still going strong. :-)

Absolutely right UFLawStud! There never was a "Frankie" in the group. The front man and lead singer was Holly Johnson. Here's how WikiPedia explains how they came up with their name....:

"On the B-side to the group's first single, Johnson explained that the group's name derived from a page from the New Yorker magazine, featuring the headline "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" and a picture of Frank Sinatra. An alternate story relates that a similar article about Frankie Vaughan was the source for the group's name. And finally another story is that it was a tabloid story about the British comic Frankie Howerd going to Hollywood. Allegedly the original group named "Frankie Goes to Hollywood" dates from 1980."

The New Yorker magazine article was making reference to Frank Sinatra going to Hollywood to make his first movie. Sinatra gained popularity as a young man when he was a singer with the Tommy Dorsey Band, and became extremely popular with the teenage girls of that era (who were called "bobby-soxers"), and he had them swooning when he performed, and got the nickname "Frankie" during that time.

Not from the 80's are ya? It's a reference to the song "Relax" by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, a huge 80's hit! They also make reference to it in the beginning of movie when they are pitching the Battle of the 80's thing to Alex Fletcher, that guy lists all the bands involved like Flock of Seagulls and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, then he says, 'so, Relax' and Alex chuckles and says "good one"
