I missed something, need explanations!

I must have missed something. Finished s3 last night and started s4 this afternoon and a few episodes in I realized I have no clue what happened to the eye patch guy.

Sir Francis Bryan, a close friend of the king who lost his eye during a joust when he was 36.

Played by Alan Van Sprang, his last episode was the season 3 finale. There was no send-off for his character. Just... never to be seen again.

I thought Alan Van Sprang played him well. And he can be seen on seasons 1 & 2 of "Reign" as King Henry II of France, a show about the life of Mary Queen of Scots.
