Alexander Payne (Writer)

Looking at the writing credits I noticed Alexander Payne. He is the writer and director of many great films like The Descendants, Sideways, About Schmidt and Nebraska.

While I didn't dislike Chuck and Larry, I am curious how he was chosen to write this movie. Was he a major writer in the film? Does anyone have any idea?

It was originally Barry Fanaro's screenplay. David Dobkin the original director at the time commissioned both Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor to rewrite the screenplay. It was originally titled Flamers. A couple months later David Dobkin dropped out and Adam Sandler got on board. Adam Sandler was attracted to the screenplay by how good it was. Then after he got on board he rewrote it heavily with his cronies. Now you got the aborted fetus which is this movie.
