If I ever wanted to watch this movie, it would only be for one reason...

Jessica Biel! Anyone agree? Other than that, this movie looks repulsive!

reply

Repulsive because you're a homophobe who has a problem with gay people?

reply

Good idea, let's turn everything into for/against homosexuality. Maybe the person just thought the movie sucked?

reply

Well, then, maybe his use of the word "repulsive" to describe it was a poor choice of words. He could have just said he didn't like the movie, but to describe something as repulsive implies to me an incredible distaste for the subject or characters. To me it's a strong description if your only problem with it was you didn't care for it. Besides, his wording also implies he has never seen the movie at all, so it would be hard to really make an opinion about it's quality as a movie overall in that case.

reply

Actually, I find this movie repulsive too. Repulsive because it pretends to promote equality when the majority of the movie gets its "laughs" from reinforcing stereotypes and cliched gay jokes. The word doesn't have to refer to the characters or subject matter, it can also refer to the terrible handling of the subject matter.

My Signature: None of us is as dumb as all of us.

I still consider it a misguided choice of words. Since I'm not of the LGBT community, maybe I don't understand about the issues gay people go through. I personally liked this movie because I thought overall it had a good message. I have the DVD and have watched it a few times so I don't remember anything in it that was necessarily offensive, unless you're maybe referring to the stuff about how gay guys are into showtunes and Barbra Streisand and things like Wham and Brokeback Mountain. Stereotypes for sure, and certainly not the most negative ones that could have been used but there are plenty of movies out there that get laughs from promoting the stereotypes of all races, nationalities or religions. I will allow however that maybe the intention of those is strictly to be a spoof on these stereotypes and Chuck and Larry was supposed to be something else. I am African American and I can personally name a movie that I thought was mishandled in the way a member of the cast was allowed to portray her character and it certainly reinforced outdated concepts that have negative historical reminders for black people. I was branded a racist myself for pointing this out on IMDB, but it just showed I guess that maybe some people just don't understand the things we have had to deal with historically. That being said, I'm not going to try to say you shouldn't feel that the movie mishandled the subject. I personally came away from it feeling good about the people in it and how they acted toward the others, whether they happened to be gay or straight

HOMOPHOBIA IS IGNORANCE! "JUST CAUSE YOUR GAY DOESN'T MEAN YOUR HORNY FOR EVERY GUY YOU MEET!"
