Was Amy Adams too old to play Lois Lane?

I mean, she was I believe, almost 40 when Man of Steel was released. Of course, that isn't "too old" in the traditional sense, and she at that age is far more plausible as a seasoned journalist than Kate Bosworth and her take as Lois Lane in Superman Returns. I mean, Kate was still in her early 20s when she did that movie.

But still, Amy is in real life almost ten years older than Henry Cavill. Maybe Cavill's Superman has a cougar fetish, I don't know. That isn't to say that there isn't precedent for Lois Lane's actress to be significantly older than Clark Kent's actor in real life. I mean, Margot Kidder was older than Christopher Reeve in real life, but only by about four years.

Maybe Amy Adams and Kate Bosworth should've switched movies . Kate born 1983 (same year as Cavill). Adams 1974 (so would've only been 32 for Superman Returns; and only 5y older than Routh ).

reply

I never found Amy Adams a credible Lois Lane.

reply

Ironically, if you saw Amy Adams and her red hair, you would be blameless, if you thought that she should've instead played Lana Lang.

reply

That's true!

reply

Should need a Courteney Cox type for Lois.

reply

Friends era Courtney Cox would have been a perfect Lois.

reply

Also you don't get any of the banter in their relationship that you get in Smallville or Lois & Clark.

reply

They had a miscasting spot with Lois Lane in Superman Returns and Man Of Steel, either Kate Bosworth or Amy Adams have any of the elements that Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher or Erica Durance brought to the character.

reply

I think Rachel Brosnahan from The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel series was a terrific choice for Lois in the upcoming Superman: Legacy.

reply

They may have finally nailed it with Rachel Brosnahan, she has Margot Kidder vibes.

reply

Exactly!

reply

She seems like a good choice.

reply

Looks like she could be funny girl Lois.

reply

Think the casting of Rachel Brosnahan may imply they bring in the banter in their relationship which we didn't get with Returns or DCEU.

reply

Yes, she could have pulled it off earlier in her career, but was definitely too old, especially when you partner her with Henry.

reply

Yes. She was an awful choice. Red hair instead of brunette, dumpy looking, and older than Clark. They also had no chemistry so there was no reason he — of anyone — would fall for they grumpy excuse for a character unless Clark had a mommy fetish, because she resembled Martha.

reply

I didn't realize she was pushing 40 when this came out. Her and Cavil looked roughly the same age to me. I actually would've preferred a brunette actress but Amy pulled it off

reply

She was still pretty hot in the 2013-2016 range but if that Superman series had gone on longer she would have aged out of it before Cavill would.

I've always thought they miscast Amy Adams as Lois Lane. It has always been strange to me, because Henry Cavill was damn near perfect for Superman/Clark Kent. Amy's a redhead, while Lois is a brunette in the comics. Amy was too old to play this character, due to the fact that she was 39 and Henry was 30. If they had continued with their original plans, Amy would've looked like a woman who's approaching 50, another reason why I didn't understand her casting.

If I had to chose who I would have casted, it would have been these ladies:
Emily Blunt; she was born in the same year as HC.

Jaimie Alexander, she's only 1 year younger than HC. I know she's lady sif, but she did try out for Lois:

Olivia Wilde is also 1 year younger. She would have been believable as a hard-hitting reporter.

Eva Green would have been nice, if they wanted someone older. She's older than Cavill by 3 years.

Paz de la Huerta. I know I might sound crazy, but if she had stayed away from alcohol, drug abuse, and plastic surgery, should would have been an excellent choice:
