Sorry, really wanted to like this film, but Harrelson just never convinced me.

Apparently he didn't convince himself either; he vigourously tried to get Schrader not to release it. Fortunately, as far as I'm concerned, he failed. I think it's a sublime performance.

I always find Woody worth watching, and though I think this is one of his weaker films (I blame the script), it's still worthwhile. I'd stop short of calling his performance sublime, but there was enough nuance here to make me care. I found the Southern accent phony, as is often the case in films, but after a certain point I didn't even notice it.
