Reasons why Trek 2009 was Stupid and Poor Pt. 2

4. nuSpock’s a horrible Vulcan.

As I already mentioned, to each their own. As we’ve already heard, the timeline is altered at the point when Nero comes through the singularity. Thus, everything prior is exactly the same. That means Spock should have pretty much the same upbringing as Nimoy Spock. However, nuSpock is much more petulant, smug, and childish. A douche.

As a child, he is raised as a Vulcan in the ways of logic. It’s clear that other Vulcan kids are being raised the same way, however they engage in petty name calling. Why? Because they feel their pure blood heritage is superior? Why? Being that Vulcans choose to suppress their emotions and live a stoic lifestyle and follow the teachings of Surak and the ways of logic only proves that genetics has NOTHING to do with the followings of the Vulcan lifestyle. Basically, you don’t have to be Tibetan to be a monk.

So the Vulcan “bullies” goad Spock to get a rise out of him. Why? Because they deem themselves superior, right? Logically you can tell these bullies are inferior to Spock and it pretty much should be left at that, but finally they get Spock to crack and he goes ape and beats a kid out of rage. Is it deserved? Yeah. Does it make sense? No. It’s completely out of character.
When Spock confronts the Elders, he clearly let’s his emotions get to him as his constipated annoyed expression is clear for all to see. Then we go to the Kobayashi Maru simulation. Clearly he shows annoyance at someone besting his simulation. And of course at the hearing, he so smugly lays out why he’s right and Kirk is wrong. And this is our co-protagonist??? How can you not want to knee him in the nuts and watch him try to hold in the painful expression? [eyes2]

5. It’s a Test of Fear.

In Trek II, the Kobayashi Maru simulation was to test a cadet on the decisions they would make where no solution chosen is correct. Thus, it’s a no-win simulation that is a test of CHARACTER. In this movie, the simulation is a test of FEAR. Fear in the face of DEATH. Seriously??? This was the THIRD TIME Kirk was taking the test! Do you really think he’s going to be fearful of DEATH if this is the third time he’s taking it? If one knows they are being tested and steps into a simulator room and performs the simulation, is the applicant supposed to believe that he can actually DIE from failing the test? Being this is the THIRD TIME and it didn’t happen the first or second time, why is he, or anybody for that matter, allowed to retake a test that has the exact same parameters each and every time??? [eyes2]

6. Asian’s can’t drive.

Yeah, I heard it before. I guess the “writers” just couldn’t pass up the chance at adding a racist gag. Not only is it racist, it HAS TO HAPPEN. Sulu gets called up as a last minute replacement and apparently fails to correctly activate the warp drives, thus the Enterprise fails to warp with the fleet to Vulcan. Now, this delay allows stowaway Kirk to warn Pike of the ambush. And because of it, they don’t warp in with the rest of the fleet. This minor delay causes the Enterprise to not fall into the ambush awaiting them. Talk about luck! Not luck. Dumb luck. Dumb racist luck. Poor & Stupid.

7. Pike makes stowaway Kirk 1st Officer.

Yes Pike knows who he is. Yes, he’s like a “father” to him. But acting 1st Officer? Puh-leeze! He wasn’t assigned to the ship. He has no knowledge of the ship to be assigned acting 1st Officer. There is no rationale for this to happen and it’s totally against Starfleet regs. But there is one reason. IT HAS TO HAPPEN! This one act, that makes absolutely no sense, is contingent on making this entire story reach its desired outcome. To be continued.

Bashing Sulu as a character seems to be one of the writers favourite past times.

I don't think it was right to change Sulu's sexual orientation making him gay in ST. Beyond.

If they wanted a gay character the writers should have made the effort to created a fresh , new original character.

Furthermore, the scene where Sulu puts his arm around his husband was a very low key way to present the gay theme .

I say : If you are going to do it ...at least do it right ..have them kiss like two people in love would after being separate for a certain time.

As The Last Jedi showed no respect or consideration for Episode VII, albeit that was a poor and stupid movie as well, the "writers" showed no respect to the history, the canon, or the actor himself who denounced this himself. Once again, fan service does nothing to story, nor did it give a nod or compliment the original cast or show. But then again as Scotty would say, what else is new?
