Well, not really, but if this movie had a darker tone it could have happened.

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I didn't really think he'd do anything on purpose...but I was sensing an accident waiting to happen.
I kept thinking something would go wrong with the baby to furter screw Lars up..

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

Me too, but then any scene featuring an arguement, and a guy holding an axe is likely to conjure an element of fear

Same here especially when brother and wife were with the doctor and said the only change was her pregnancy. I thought he might do some crazy stuff like try hurt her so the baby dies or something nuts like that.
