When Lars gives the flowers to Bianca, was this supposed to reference Bianca. The fact she can obviously never die.

I think so. It taps into Lars and his fear of abandonment. His parents are both dead, his brother left as soon as he could. But Bianca will be with him as long as he needs her in his life. That's what makes Bianca's death all the more significant. By projecting her 'death', it shows he does not need her anymore and has come to terms with his own early loss of his parents.
