who do people say that lars was nuts?

he was lonely, but that doesnt equal nuts. he formed a bond with a doll as if it were a real person, which to him it was. again its not nuts, just lonely. i see as the same as people who treat their animals as if they are human.

Because that's not the norm in terms of 'normal' societal behavior (not necessarily my opinion), and I have to say if he hadn't connected with Margo and left the ending open to interpretation that maybe they'd be together, i'd think he had extreme issues as well especially with how far he took the relationship. There are people out there who form relationships with lifelike dolls, but not to the extent in which it was portrayed in the movie. and at that..i still feel in a way that people have some sort of social anxiety issue if they feel the need to form a relationship, sexual or not-with a doll and not realize that the doll isn't real. it's creepy.

He has his problems that's for sure. I don't think it's as black and white to say he's "nuts" but I do think him being lonely played a part. Regardless it was funny at first to see him get so attached with a doll but then it became really sad. I love the scene where he was saying goodbye to her. His emotion felt so real.

I honestly don't think he was "crazy" either. He was lonely, probably depressed and yeah...it was strange what he did without a shadow of a doubt but I don't believe for a second Lars thought she was "real". I think he was just more or less acting and somehow convinced himself that he was in a loving relationship. Bizarre? yeah. Mentally ill? I don't think so, but then again it's a very hard thing to define and I'm not a doctor and nor was anyone in the movie who had spoken with Lars? Unless I missed something...
