Love this movie! Wondered why it didn't do well. Then...

...came on here and saw that it's mainly because so many people just can't get past the "oh the nerd got the hot chick" thing. How ludicrous. There's no accounting for taste, and this movie is a funny, sweet triumph that deserved to be a smash hit. No sequel though, Wouldn't want to see Molly and Kirk break up for some lame reason then get back together, and there's nowhere else to go with the story other than that. Unless it was about Stainer and Patty hooking up - but then I'd feel bad for the girl at the burger stand. She was sweet.

I liked it when I first saw it back in 2011. After a re-watch the other day, I still like it!

Yeah well, they did that already.

Maybe it didn't hit big, because some people don't like seeing a "nerd" get the girl...Unless she a nerd too.

I don't think they did, really. In the first movie I feel that Kirk and Molly's break up was within the context of the current story - Kirk's insecurities rearing their heads and making him scare himself off from going all the way with Molly. To make a sequel in which they break up and then get back together, they'd have to come up with some way that would probably be lame and not within the context of what was set up in the first movie. But what do I know, I'm just a less-than-average Joe out in the real world and not some fancy Hollywood writer. Maybe those guys could come up with something golden.

But thanks for your reply. And I love your avatar by the way - I wonder if there's many people out there who know what movie it's from (one of my all-time favorite movies even though it was nothing like the book - which was also awesome, but more like a different take on Bram Stoker's classic Dracula than what the movie was.)

It was an awful shit movie...

I saw this movie at an advanced screening and loved it. I think it might not have done so well because it might have been seen as formulaic and we had seen similar type of movies from Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen.

I'm glad you liked it. I like the characters. I dislike the soundtrack.

The guy looks like an alien from another planet.

It's not a blockbuster but I thought it had a decent box office return. Must be thinking of a different movie.

i think it's a fine movie
some bits like the ejac scene were pretty cringe but .. hey that's comedy i guess

Teenie film with a happy ending! Reminds me of my school days, when I wanted to learn the profession of pilot, still struggling with published confessional secrets. At that time I always came with my girlfriends to my school friends and my family :). Today, most of my work colleagues know nothing about the connections. When someone finds out something, most people first only recognize the big age difference... Funny film that you can identify with in your youth when you realize that there is a crisis in the relationship.
