Something I just picked up on
Dr. Brand specifically picked people to go on the missions who didn't have any family attachments, except for Amelia and Cooper and they end up being the only two who survive. In Cooper's case it was his attachment to his family that kept him going and it's what ended up saving the world. Nice touch on Nolan's part.
