Loved Oshii's first adaptation

Considerably less impressed by Innocence and definitely not a fan of the TV series Stand Alone Complex. I came across the original as one of the first anime I ever saw, watching it as an english dub that I hired from my local video store. I had no concept of the manga series so this was my first exposure to the franchise as well as one of the first to anime. The concepts were amazing and mind boggling the artwork was beautiful and the animation was ahead of its time. The character design was a little strange but still very good and kind of unique especially in the way that the main character wasn't gigantically, unnaturally, hugely breasted and (when in clothes) was fully clothed, although I must admit she did seem to be naked for a great deal of screen time.

Anyway, whilst perhaps the Stand Alone Complex series was a truer adaptation to the manga than the anime (I've still not read it however), I must say I found it pretty disappointing and mundane and run of the mill. The artwork, animation and character design were incredible with a superior style to the original anime film. But this didn't count for much when I realised it was such a watered down experience in comparison to the original anime with none of the potency or mileage to the ideas that it had presented. That said I definitely plan to watch this new film anyway in hopes of a miracle, also the presence of the puppet master echoes back to the original anime which gives me hope. I do not want to read up too much on the plot so that it will be mostly new to me when I do watch it but I wonder, does anybody know if this is any closer to the original anime or is it a lot like all the SAC episodes? I hope those dumbass talking tank things don't feature too much because they were infuriating.
