Overall VERY intellingent anime - Please Read!!

Hi everyone. I'm assuming that the majority of readers on this forum and the other SAC forums are fellow fans like me. I would like to let everyone know how I got into watching this in the first place.

My sister (who loves buying and collecting anime) just got Volume 1 of the very first series and at first I completly ignored it. One day I was really bored and just decided to put it on. At first I started watching it but it just seemed really complex for me. My guess is that it was because I was still young (I'm 19 now)so I wasn't used to that sort of stuff but one thing that did strike me instantly was the quality of the animation.

Don't get me wrong in the same way that gameplay matters over visuals when it comes to computer games I didn't just like SAC because of the animation but after seeing so many old looking robot mecha animes this just seemed so refreshing and it lookws very crisp and detailed.

The best thing is the storylines in each episode backs all that up so perfectly with really decent voiceover work which is pretty rare in an anime (but its getting better), likeable and believable characters (particularly the members of Section 9) and to finish the icing on the cake Yoko Kanno who never seizes to provide an excellent musical score.

I think the key to watching and enjoyng this anime series is to have an open mind and also give it multiple viewings as after being confused with a lot of episodes I get the overall sypnosis by going back and seeing what I watched again but more carefully.

So I would like to hear others opinions on this anime.

Well, my viewing sequence is 1. SAC TV series, 2. GITS movie, 3. Innocence, 4. 2nd GIG TV series, and then 5. SSS. It all started when someone borrowed me the SAC TV series 2 months ago. Before that, I may have heard of this title from somewhere.

In the beginning, I can't understand why a Major would dress like a silly doll. Why a guy would put 2 plastic caps to block the view. And why the Chief's hair looks like an anvil. Since I have nothing better to do, I endured the first few episodes, which are not too bad.

But then I was quite impressed starting from the Laughing Man episode. It's so cool to be able to hack into one's brain and alter one's vision. After that, I was completely hooked. The director knows how to tell a good story. The mystery often is solved only at the last minute. Also, some of the sad endings really touched me.

I was a little disappointed at the 2 movies, but it's probably my own problem (for example, the main OST from Innocence sounded ugly at first, but later I got to like it). In any case, the characters in the TV series are more likable. I just love watching the performance of the Major, Barto, Togusa and others.

This past 2 months has been a great time to me!

The Major didn't always wear the skimpy outfits. Then again, if you were built like she is, wouldn't you flaunt it? Batou's eyes aren't plastic caps, they're cybernetic replacements. He had them put in when he was in the military. As far as Aramaki's hair style, it's how Shirow Masamune depicted it in the original manga. I've seen older men with hair like his so it's not outside the realm of possibilities.
