Solid State Society: meaning of the title?

What's it supposed to mean? Authoritarian government or something more subtle?

"You're from the 60s! Peace love dope! Back, back to the 60s! No place for you in the future!"

Hello, from my understanding solid state refers to electronics that no longer use vacuum tubes preferring instead to use transistors and integrated circuits. I guess it is supposed to be a somewhat clever way of commenting to what degree machines, cyberization, and technology in general affect life in Japan circa 2034. Honestly, I have yet to see the DVD so it may have another meaning more germane to the story. Anyway, I hope this helps, take care..

it really translates to steady state society, which describes ow the elderly japanese were kept in a "steady state" in their beds, and their collective cyberbrains being the "society" or the geschtalt thing motoko was taking about

solid and steady usually have the same meaning, but for the movie title, solid sounded better
