Episode connection to those who have seen this

Since the first Eva movie is a recreation of episodes 1-6, then how about the second film? Obviously starting from episode 7, but ending where? I've read somewhere 7-20, which is maybe why i've read reviews that the story of the second film feels rushed. Plus the edition of the new girl character leads me to believe that its the second film that will totally change the direction of this Rebuild series. To anyone who has seen the movie, i don't necessarily need spoilers, just a general knowledge of how the second film collaborates with the original series, (ex.7-12, 7-20 or 7-totally new direction)

It indeed goes from episode 7 to 20(the movie ends with the battle against Zeruel), although it's not excatly the same thing, a good chunk of events of the original show are tweaked here and there or they are gone, adding new scenes(some of them are very relevant whereas the others were obviously added for fanservice purposes), some of the characters act a little different from their original anime counterpart, etc... but yeah in a nutshell you could say this a completely new direction.

Hope that gave you some insight.

As someone who was a die-hard fan of the originals and was skeptical of the rebuilds, I don't see where the "rushed" critiques are coming from, at least in regards to 2.0. There were some parts in "You are (not) Alone" that I admit had that feeling of rushing along, but I didn't feel it at all in 2.0. An important thing to remember in 2.0 is that the story deviates a LOT from the original series, way more so than in 1.0 I'll be honest, though, I don't think these new movies were made for "new" fans. In a way, I feel like they're a critique on the original series, and you will pretty much HAVE to have seen the original series to appreciate what they did with the rebuilds. If you haven't seen it yet, I understand how that's a little confusing.

Thanks guys, was purely asking for the fact because I too was a HUGE fan of the series. And the first rebuild movie; 1.0, loved it. Before I saw it I kinda had an idea what it encompassed(eps.1-6), so because of hearing few different things about 2.0(like the rushed part), i never had a clear idea of how the second film will have collaborated to the series, upon before seeing the film. So now that I know that it will end up deviating alot, I'll try not to expect certain things. Thanks again.

Oh, and if its Misato fan-service, than thats the best kind

Basically every female character (even Illustrious the new girl) gets a full scene of fanservice devoted to her. Maybe not Ritsuko (aside from Kaji grouping her in a non-sexual way), but the rest, you betcha.
