I'm happy that we'll end up with two very different takes on the story

I really am...if the original creator is going to approach the material twice...I'd much rather not have one just be a glossy, fresh version of exactly what we saw before.

The original series and EoE are fantastic in their own right, and this new series is as well.

I particularly love that it DID start out being very much a retread of the original show...but planting seeds for deviations, and then the 2nd film moves from being a direct adaptation and is more of a new story that features a lot of the key moments(sometimes in new context)

With the 3rd film we're now in entirely uncharted territory for the series and primed for a conclusion that is all levels of grand and epic.

I'm not happy if they screw up the ending.

I haven't even watched any of the Rebuilds. I'm waiting for the finale. If they make it a happy one, ruining EoE's legacy doing so, I'm gonna forget this Rebuild thing ever existed. If they retain what made EoE so great (I'm not saying they should simply remake EoE; instead they should just retain its gutsy "everything goes to hell" concept), I'm definitely gonna watch the entire Rebuild.

Finally someone that shares my opinion. If i wanted the same thing, i would watch the tv series and EOE.

I love the fact that specially the third movie is completely different from what we have seen. I was mindblown with the last movie.

Because the original ending made NGE stand out from the rest. A happy ending would bring it back to their level, losing what made it so great in the first place.

ema1204:
"Had End of Eva had the exact same movie, but the very ending be different, it would still be as extremely popular as it is today."

There's no way it'd be as popular if it had taken the easy way. The ending was the climax; it solidified "the disturbing imagery, its character interactions and choices, and most important of all, its subject matter" and was the only proper way to end the unorthodox series. A typical happy ending would have been equal to a slap in the face. The ending is the critical point that will leave a lasting impression, and you cannot build an unorthodox, pathbreaking series like this and then go down the cliché path at the very last second.

Exactly!

I can only agree with your last statement that is

"With the 3rd film we're now in entirely uncharted territory for the series and primed for a conclusion..."

Why would they do that?

To milk the crowds.

Hey, Soldier. Do you know who's in command here?

This instalment sure took a whole different path than I expected, I'll give it that. Parts of it (especially towards the end) were rather messy, but the first thirty minutes were ominously excellent because you felt just as confused as Shinji. It was impossible to figure out what was really going on, only being aware that things had taken a spectacular turn for the worse since last movie.
